Camping

My favorite kind of hotel… Nature! Colorado is best known for the ability to camp off the grid in what’s called “Dispersed camping”. That’s right, just find a spot and pop a squat for up to 10 days at a time. Other than primitive camping Pagosa Springs also features a wide variety of campgrounds and RV Park's. From glamping in an RV along the San Juan River to more traditional campgrounds scattered throughout the base of the mountains, you'll find the perfect place to escape the daily grind and enjoy the beauty of the San Juans!

Williams Creek Campground

Williams Campground is one of the bigger traditional campgrounds in the area. It can get busy on the weekends and prime spots fill up fast. The best views are located on the back ridgeline, offering up some of the best sunrises you'll ever see. Fishing is available nearby at the resevoir. Location is 45 minutes from town with about 30 minutes of that on dirtroad that gets real dusty during a dry summer.

Cimarrona Campground

Cimarrona is nestled in a mixture of Aspens and Ponderosa Pines. Most spots have plenty of shade. A short walk gives access to fishing on Williams Creek and the Cimarrona Trailhead. This campground tends to stay open a bit longer than the others in the area.

Teal Campground

Teal Campground is one of my favorites! Several of the sites are located next to the lake with majestic views of the surrounding mountains. Sites are mostly open with only a few ponderosa pines offering some much needed shade. Camping is on a first come, first serve bases. And because of the limited sites, it quickly fills up on summer weekends.

Sportsman's Campground & Mountain Cabins

One of the most popular Pagosa Springs campgrounds, our campground was carved from the original Toner/Taylor family homestead by direct descendants of the Toner/Taylor family who still own and operate several of the working ranches in our area. Cattle are still moved and fences still maintained by workers on horseback just as they have for over 100 years. Development in our area has largely been limited because of the large percentage of national forest land and the proximity to the Weminuche Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in Colorado.
